Design
Inspired by the cafe racer motorcycle culture that emerged in Europe in the 50's, which combined a love for speed and engineering with a distinctive, minimalist style and a sense of counterculture camaraderie, the FL2 has a slick, effortlessly relaxed vibe with luxury leather and wool upholstery options combined with white oak wooden construction. Reflecting Frontal Lobe's usual mid-century vibe, the cafe racer references are subtly echoed in the lines of the oak chassis and low-slung profile.
Fabrication
The FL2 is designed and crafted for New Zealand lifestyles, constructed with solid timber elements for a statement furniture piece that's naturally timeless while also undeniably current. Materials of the highest quality ensure all our products reflect the brand’s ethos around design sensibility and sustainability; all Frontal Lobe designs aim to be timeless and intergenerational in a world of obsolescence. Sustainability was indeed top of mind throughout the design process; the FL2 is constructed using locally sourced materials wherever possible. The timber dowel is manufactured by local Christchurch company Leech Wood Products, the foam profiles hand-cut just around the corner at QCD, the upholstery individually handcrafted by local upholsterers, and the precision aluminium joints machined at Gatenby Automatic Engineering.​ At Frontal Lobe sustainability is as much about the materials we choose and the local businesses we partner with as it is about creating iconic pieces of furniture that will last lifetimes – this is evident in the DNA of the FL2.
Options
The FL2 is an incredible statement furniture piece to accent your architectural space. It is available upholstered in luxury black or tan leather, or in the full Warwick Augustus colour range to best complement your space. The FL2 is made to order—and available to view—at the Frontal Lobe showroom and workshop at 22 Stanley Street, Christchurch. Allow an eight-week production time; delivery can be arranged nationwide.
